In the wonderful Chestnut Ridge Park, which is located in America, namely in New York, there is an interesting place – the Eternal Flame Falls. At the same time, many may think that it was the owners of the park who lit it there, but in fact it is of 100% natural origin. That is why it attracts millions of tourists who come to see how a fire can constantly burn under a curtain of water.
The waterfall itself cascades down the mountain slopes, and in one place a small cave has formed, where the fire burns. The fact is that it is here that the rock has cracked and natural gas leaks out. Thanks to this, the fire burns forever, although there are times when it suddenly goes out, so passers-by or tourists set it on fire themselves and it continues to burn.
This place is quite popular, both young people and entire families like to relax here, because in addition to the waterfall with fire, there are tennis courts, several entertainment areas. It will take a little time to find the waterfall, because the park occupies as much as 490 hectares. A small path leads to it, which at first glance is not at all remarkable. But, walking along it, you will become a witness of the surrounding natural beauty, where the sound of water, fresh air and incredible landscapes will not leave anyone indifferent.
A sign that you are near the eternal flame is the appearance of an unpleasant smell in the air. Many tourists say that rotten broken eggs were placed somewhere nearby. Such an unpleasant smell here is due to natural gas seeping through the rock. It has such an aroma, but compared to the beauty, this is an insignificant trifle.
The fire looks very impressive under the falling waters of the waterfall, you can easily get to it, although you will have to get a little wet. If you came here but did not find the fire, you can go into the cave behind the waterfall and light it with matches. Usually, the fire here reaches about 20 centimeters, this is from the largest crack. But there are several smaller cracks here, where the fire is not so high and goes out much more often from water. Due to the fact that it is hidden from the wind by the cave and water, it burns almost forever.
There are many more similar leaks in the park where you can catch a fire, but they are in the open air and the slightest wind puts them out, and it is not as easy to find them as this one. After heavy rains, when the waterfall is filled with water, a barrier of water hides the fire from prying eyes and only a small glow of fire remains, which is dissipated by drops of water.
