Where are the ideal swimming spots in Vilnius? It's the only landlocked capital in the Baltics. The Baltic Sea is approximately 300 kilometers from the city, about a four-hour train ride. So, what to do on hot days in Vilnius? The answer is: head to the city's beaches, swim in the river or lake, and enjoy the beautiful shores with amenities and a variety of activities. Vilnius has five beaches monitored by lifeguards. However, lifeguards are only on duty at the Director of Municipal Administration, starting June 4st. Until then, residents and tourists alike swim at their own risk.Top Beaches in Vilnius
Lake Balzhis

Lake Balžis attracts visitors with its surrounding pine trees, the scent of fresh air, and a beautiful sunset. Local residents especially value these pines, as they give the area a cozy and secure feel. Lake Balžis offers all the amenities: restrooms, changing rooms, golden sand, lifeguards, and even a barbecue area. Situated approximately 16 kilometers from the city center, the lake is easily accessible by car, bike, and public transportation (buses No. 115 and No. 39).

Green Lakes

The Green Lakes are one of the most popular swimming spots in Vilnius. They are part of the Verjego Regional Park and comprise six lakes. The main beach is located near Lake Balsys, offering fine sand, picnic areas, a volleyball court, boat rentals, and, of course, green water. Don't be put off by the lake's appearance, however, as the water is actually clean when swimming. You can reach the Green Lakes by bus #66 or #76.

Valakampiai Beach

How about trying a swim in the Neris River, especially on hot days when the water is a bit refreshing? Valakampiai Beach is a popular spot for both young and old. It also has all the most common beach amenities and is located closer to the city center, about 7 kilometers from Cathedral Square. You can take buses #144 or 5G and explore the city panorama along the refreshing Neris River.Top Beaches in Vilnius
