Dudleytown is located in Connecticut, in Cornwall County. Well, the surroundings of the town are truly "picturesque": a dense forest, through the crowns of which almost no sunlight passes, for this reason the people called it the Dark Forest. About a hundred years have passed since the last person left this cursed place, but not just like that, but because of the unexplained circumstances of a series of deaths.

Series of deaths

The first fatality occurred in 1792 on the farm of William Tanner. A certain Gershom Hochtister was on the farm and somehow fell from the threshing floor and as a result suffered an injury incompatible with life - a broken neck. They wanted to hold the owner of the farm accountable, but no evidence was ever found. Although, Tanner claimed that there was some unknown evil spirit in the forest that penetrated the city at nightfall, and that right before his eyes an unknown creature simply tore a man to pieces.

The next similar case was recorded in 1804. Then Sarah Faye died during a thunderstorm, she was struck by lightning. Her husband, General Herman Swift, went mad because of this.

Then comes the death of the wife of popular journalist Horace Greeley. Mary Cheeney, a native of Dudleytown, hanged herself a week before the results of the 1872 presidential election, in which her husband lost. What prompted her to do such an act remains a mystery.

There have been cases of families disappearing without a trace in Dudleytown. History knows that at the end of the nineteenth century, John Patrick Brophy's wife died of tuberculosis. Not long after, his two daughters disappeared into the woods without a trace, and the house where Brophy and his family lived was engulfed in flames one night. Brophy's body was not found at the site of the burned house, and he was never seen alive again.

By the very end of the nineteenth century, the city was deserted. Old residents were dying, and young people were moving away, frightened by stories of curses.

In 1920, one of the famous oncologists of New York, William Clark, came here with his wife, dreaming of living a quiet life in unity with nature. One day he went to New York on business, but when he returned, he saw that his wife had simply gone crazy. She spent her last days in a mental hospital.Journey to Dudleytown - Mysterious Legends of a Town in the USAThe Curse of the City

There are claims that the curse dates back to 1510, the year an attempt was made to overthrow King Henry VIII. For this, the Duke, as the instigator, Edmund Dudley, was executed, and the king also placed a powerful curse on his entire family. Thus, according to legend, from that moment on, misfortunes rained down on the city.

Although there is one specialist in demonology and "ghost hunter" Ed Warren, who says that the curse of the city is not the result of the execution of Edmund Dudley. The Dudley brothers, who named the city, were the descendants of an English judge who once sentenced many people to death for witchcraft. And they cursed the Dudley name - that is where the curses began.

Once upon a time, a film crew came to Dudleytown to do a report. When everything and everyone was ready to work, the cameras were turned on, the reporters were getting ready, when suddenly a dark shadow appeared in the camera lenses, and the film crew began to have asthma attacks and all the equipment failed.Journey to Dudleytown - Mysterious Legends of a Town in the USADudleytown Today
