South America is probably the continent where man has had the least impact on nature. Pure equatorial forests, lakes with lots of fish, and mountain landscapes have not lost their appearance due to urbanization.
But there are also such places, being in which you forget about the earthly origin of the latter. The Marble Caves, which are located in the south of Chile, are exactly such creations.
If you want to visit this place, you need to travel hundreds of kilometers across the country. Your starting point is the city of Chile Chico, where you can hire a boat with a guide.
The Marble Caves are located in the Andes on Lake General Carrera. This is a Chilean name, but the lake is partly located in Argentina, so there is another title - Buenos Aires.
The best time to visit the Marble Caves is early spring. Then the water level is at its lowest and the weather conditions will not cause bad weather, which would make going out by boat impossible. During this period, the true beauty of this place will be revealed in full force.
Entering the labyrinth, you will see how the soft turquoise shade of the water is transferred to the walls of the caves, creating a unique extravaganza of unreality of what is happening. At different times of the day, the water is reflected in its own way, so you will not see the same palette if you spend the whole day there. The same applies to the time of year. Due to the melting of glaciers, the water becomes somewhat cloudy. But this does not spoil the beauty of the caves at all, they just acquire a muted matte shade.
The locals have named the grottoes that make up the caves themselves - the Marble Cathedral, the Chapel, the Marble Cave. These are the most famous places, but there are other grottoes as well.
An interesting fact is that the Marble Caves, which were formed about six thousand years ago, are not made of marble at all. The material that nature used for construction was limestone, which is so strong in its base that sculptures can be created from it.
The remote location of the Marble Caves and the time that must be spent journey to them, is fully compensated by the unearthly beauty that you will see while staying there.
