You should visit this residence of Empress Elizabeth, or as she was popularly called "Sisi". In addition to the magnificent palace itself, here you can see the Palm House, a uniquely beautiful park, a zoo and an unforgettable Gloriette pavilion. Schönbrunn Palace is an ancient building built in the Baroque style. Its construction began in 1696, but to this day it has retained a wonderful condition with majestic decoration of the halls.
The palace premises consist of a thousand buildings, but only 45 of them are intended for viewing and visiting tourists. The interior decoration of the rooms is made in the Rococo style, and amazes all travelers with luxury and chic. For example, there are rooms with the purest white marble, decorated with gold ornaments and huge chandeliers made of Bohemian glass. The Empress herself lived in these chambers. But on the other side of the palace, there are modest rooms in which workers once lived.
It is worth mentioning the Mirror Hall, which is distinguished by the presence of huge mirrors, a beautiful altar with a unique image of the Virgin Mary. Here, in those distant times, the oath was taken. The Ballroom and the Small Gallery attract visitors even more. The decoration of these rooms is also quite luxurious. In the ballroom, all the most important events of those times took place, magnificent masquerade balls and important guests were received.
Each room contains huge paintings and portraits of the empress. The Rich and Million Rooms are especially popular. The latter room is decorated with an unusual mosaic of expensive rosewood with gold trim. If you are visiting Vienna for the first time, be sure to sign up for the Grand Tour, which includes a visit to all the rooms. The cost of such a tour is only 14,5 euros.
The living exclusive jewel of the palace is considered to be the park that is located around it. Here you can see beautiful flower beds, living arches of roses, fences of wisteria and other attractions. The bushes trimmed into bizarre little animals also please the eye of tourists. The green area of the palace today is more than 160 hectares. The most beautiful is the gallery of red roses that curl. It is better to come here from the end of May to July, when all the flowers begin to bloom and the imperial garden turns into a real work of art. There are two paid gardens here, for which you need to pay no more than 3 euros. This is the famous garden of Prince Rudolf, in which in the summer there are citrus trees with ripe fruits and a labyrinth of boxwood bushes.
Far from the palace is the Gloriette colonnade, which is considered the triumphal arch of Maria Theresa herself. Its construction was completed in 1775. And the Neptune fountain simply attracts many people and hides a fortune of coins under its waters.
