Hamburg is a German city famous for its port, historical and modern architecture. It is a great destination for travelers looking for different attractions in one place. To see its true beauty, it is worth walking around the different squares and streets for a long time.
Church of St. Nicholas
The Main Church of St. Michael (Hauptkirche Sankt Michaelis) is one of the most famous churches in Hamburg. It has long been famous because the tower served as a landmark for ships entering the river in Hamburg. Today, the church is also famous because it has the largest clock on the tower in Germany. Nowadays, you can admire a beautiful panoramic view of the city from the tower. You can reach the viewing platform partly by elevator or stairs, climbing 453 steps. You will be amazed by the views of the city from a height of 106 meters. The height of the entire tower is more than 132 meters.
The tower (as well as the crypt and the whole church) can be visited daily, from May to October from 09:00 to 20:00 (last entry at 19:30) and from November to April from 10:00 to 18:00 (last entry at 17:30), however, it is not possible to enter inside during services and events taking place in the temple.
The price of a regular ticket to the tower is 5 euros, a concession ticket is 3,50 euros. However, if you are interested in entering the crypts, you will pay for a combined ticket: normal - 7,00 €, concession - 4,00 €. For holders of a valid TURBOPASS Hamburg card, entry to the tower is free.
View the Stintfang Aussichtsplattform platform
Stintfang Aussichtsplattform is a viewing platform in the Stintfang hostel, which is located about 2 minutes from the exit of the Landungsbrücken underground station. It is another viewing point in Hamburg. The platform has been located there since 2013 on Paula-Karpinski-Platz. You can admire the view of the characteristic building of the Landungsbrücken harbor and the river.
Observation tower of the ruins of the Church of St. Nicholas
The main church of St. Nikolai (Ehemalige Hauptkirche St. Nikolai), and in fact its ruins, are one of the most recognizable objects in Hamburg. The ruins of the religious building were left as a souvenir after the war, now there is a museum and a viewing point on the tower.
The attraction can be visited every day by purchasing an entrance ticket: regular - €5,00, discounted - €4,00, children - €3,00. Holders of the important Hamburg Tower card TURBOPASS enter for free. Opening hours: from May to September - from 10:00 to 18:00, from October to April - from 10:00 to 17:00. The observation deck is located at a height of 76 meters. The total length of the tower is more than 147 meters.
Viewing terrace of the Steinwerder
Aussichtspunkt-Steinwerder is a viewing platform located on the other side of the Alter Elbtunnel in a lesser-known area among tourists called Steinwerder. This place is located right at the entrance to the tunnel, right by the water. True, this viewing point is not the best for fully admiring the city from above, but it is still worth a visit.
Visit the St. Pauli district. During a longer stay in Hamburg, we will have the opportunity to admire the ships passing by the river. It is a relatively unknown place and not very popular with tourists, which can be its great advantage. You will probably find there peace and quiet, which may be lacking in this noisy city.
Hamburg is a great German port city. Where else can you see a huge collection of exhibits related to the sea? The extensive collection was collected in the historic Speicherstadt district, the Kaispeicher B building.
