Tourism in Zambia is now growing thanks to the innovation of cruise tours. The Minister of Tourism and Arts, Charles Banda, said that Zambia will soon see how best to develop cruise tourism using the available water facilities. The head of the Seychelles mission in Zambia, Jamil (Jimmy) Butt, noted that his country wants to develop bilateral friendship in line with the General Cooperation Agreement that already exists between the two countries.
The Executive Secretary of the Ports Management Association of Eastern and Southern Africa (PMAESA), Nozipho Mdawe, said he was keen to share the idea of diversifying the sector using water-based facilities. The Minister of Tourism and Arts said that in line with the tourism diversification programme, Zambia was doing its utmost to let people know that the African country’s tourism potential lies beyond Victoria Falls. It was noted that the interest expressed by the Seychelles Tourism Minister was a good sign that the region was making every effort to develop its various tourism sectors.
Mr Butt said Seychelles has been cooperating with Zambia for some time now through cultural exchanges during the Livingstone International Arts and Culture Festival (LICAF). The Seychelles envoy said it was his minister's wish to see Hon.
PMAESA Executive Secretary, Nozipho Mdawe, said that cruise tourism is doing very well and Zambia is growing rapidly in this direction. African countries that have the facilities and prospects to receive cruise ships or to develop cruising routes on rivers, waterways and lakes will be invited by PMAESA to meet in the near future to actively develop Cruising in Africa for foreign tourists, attracting them with the exotic expanses of the hottest continent.
