Masked gunmen reportedly threw Molotov cocktails at a club in Cairo and began shooting at the building from the street. A fire immediately broke out in the restaurant, killing 12 people on the spot from smoke inhalation and 6 more on the way to the hospital.

According to preliminary information, there were no foreign tourists in the Shahrazad Hotel restaurant at the time of the attack. Almost all of the victims were Egyptian citizens. Most of them were hotel and restaurant employees who were poisoned by combustion products while escorting customers outside.

Egyptian police have denied the version of a terrorist attack. It is reported that the attack was carried out by one of the former employees of the restaurant, who believed that he was fired without reason. He was allegedly recognized by one of the victims.
