The recent terrorist attacks in Egypt have prompted the Foreign Ministry offices of various countries to issue warnings against traveling to the North African republic. Ukraine is no exception.
In recent years, Ukrainian tourists have become some of the most resilient travelers who are difficult to scare off by negative events, and the record volume of tourist flow to Turkey in the turbulent 2016 is a direct confirmation of this. However, the task of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to express its position and, first of all, to worry about the safety of its citizens. The Ukrainian department recommended that its compatriots not plan trips to Egypt until mid-summer, until the situation stabilizes. In fact, there are no guarantees that the threat of new terrorist attacks in July will be less than it is now.
Experts and representatives of the Egyptian tourism market admit that the Ukrainian tourist flow was one of those that helped Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh to somehow stay afloat. As for Ukrainian citizens who are currently in the republic, they are advised not to visit the northern and central parts of the Sinai Peninsula. This recommendation also applies to the desert areas of the Nile in the west and to a number of resorts, which include the above-mentioned cities, as well as Dahab, El Gouna, Safaga, Cairo, Dahab. Tourists should also avoid the area of the bays of Soma and Makadi.
So far, Ukrainian travel companies have not shared any information about changes in the market after a series of tragic events a week ago. Perhaps this silence indicates that there has been no sharp drop in sales or cancellation of bookings.
