Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the proposal of the head of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov to completely suspend air passenger traffic with Egypt until the end of the official investigation into the causes of the crash of the Kogalymavia A321 airliner that occurred on the Sinai Peninsula. This information was made public by the head of the press service of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
Let us recall that Bortnikov voiced a proposal to stop flights to all cities in Egypt, and not just to tourist centers, during a meeting of the anti-terrorism committee.
Dmitry Peskov noted that the ban on flights to Egypt does not confirm the version about the crash of the A321, which took 224 lives, due to act of terrorism, than cut off the possible information speculations about this theme.
Meanwhile, Rostourism has begun to urgently create an operational headquarters, which will have to evacuate all Russians currently on vacation in Egypt in a short time. According to preliminary information from Rostourism, there are currently about 45 thousand Russian tourists in Egypt (ATOR cites the number at 55 thousand).
We add that flight ban in Egypt came into effect immediately upon its announcement. It is reported that airlines have begun to urgently cancel scheduled regular and charter flights to the country's airports.
