London's popular Bermondsey Square Hotel is now Sharia-compliant after being bought by a Middle Eastern businessman.
In 2010, TripAdvisor named Bermondsey Square the most fashionable hotel in Britain. However, the hotel menu, once specially designed by the best chefs in Europe, has now been removed from all pork dishes and drinks containing alcohol.
According to the British press, the main reason for such changes is the unwillingness of the new owner of the hotel, whose name remains unknown, to "profit from the sale of alcohol." At the same time, guests can freely bring alcoholic drinks from the street to the room - hotel rules do not prohibit their consumption.
Robert Holland, a spokesman for Bespokes Hotels, who have managed the hotel since 2009, confirmed that some changes had been made to the Bermondsey Square rules and services. “These changes have been made in the best interests of the hotel. However, our doors remain open to anyone who wants to stay with us. And that will always be the case,” Holland said.
