Spain and its islands have become the most popular holiday destination for Europeans this summer in terms of bookings. The Balearic island of Mallorca is a hot spot.

Greece is the second most popular summer sun destination, with resorts on the mainland, according to booking data. Travellers are getting a taste for Turkey again this year, with the destination named the third most popular, followed by Portugal's Algarve region.

Malta, which is visited by many tourists every year, continues to be a hit with Europeans, who named it the fifth most popular destination this summer.

Many holidaymakers are looking for new destinations in the warmer months, with booking data showing the Italian islands of Sicily and Sardinia the fastest growing destination among Europeans.
