About 100 holidaymakers heading to Mount Teide were treated to an unplanned romantic night out in the open air.
The excursion was interrupted due to a faulty funicular and tourists had no choice but to spend the night on the slope of the volcano. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon, but only this morning all tourists were evacuated with the help of rescue helicopters.
According to the British publication Daily Mail, the cable car to Teide stopped after lunch. Thus, most of the tourists who found themselves at the top were temporarily cut off from the civilized world. Some travelers were even luckier - the cable car stopped and they were caught in the air. For about 5 hours, some of the tourists "hung" in the cabins, which are separated from the ground by several dozen meters.
The rescuers had to spend quite a bit of time to get the tourists off the top. Towards evening, the people were safely transported to the slope, but some of the rescuers had to stop the operation for a while because of the onset of darkness - the road for further evacuation of people was no longer safe at that time. In connection with this, the people had to set up camp. Fortunately, the rescuers provided everything necessary for a comfortable overnight stay. The emergency romantic overnight stay went well and in the morning all the remaining travelers were released from the protracted excursion to the Teide volcano, which is the largest in the country. Its height is 3 meters. By the way, on the site of the slopes there is a national park - the first of its kind in Spain.
