Every tourist arriving in the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, by air or sea, starting from January 1, 2015, will be required to pay a tax of 1 euro, reports the portal Travel.ru.
The tax does not apply to travellers arriving in Lisbon by train or private or public transport. The city government expects to generate an additional €2015 million in revenue from the tax in 7, which will be used to implement the strategic plan for tourism development in Lisbon, which runs until 2019.
Moreover, from January 1, 2016, tourists will be “delighted” with new taxes. Thus, for each night spent in a hotel in the city during the first week of stay, an adult traveler will have to pay 1 euro. The Lisbon authorities believe that the amount of the new taxes is so insignificant that it will not seriously affect tourist attendance city.
