As reported by the regional department of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for the Murmansk region, as a result of an avalanche in the area of the Geografov Pass in the Khibiny Mountains, a group of four tourists were injured, one of whom died on the spot.
The emergency that occurred in the Khibiny Mountains of the Murmansk Region became known on Thursday, December 10, after tourists who survived the avalanche contacted rescuers themselves.
A tourist group of four was reportedly engulfed snow avalanche, which came down from one of the mountains in the area of the Geografov Pass. Three men were able to get out from under the snowdrifts on their own, but the fourth (a resident of Moscow) was only able to be rescued with the help of rescuers who arrived on snowmobiles. Unfortunately, the Muscovite was already dead.
The surviving tourists suffered minor injuries and refused hospitalization. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the tourist group did not undergo the necessary registration before going out into the mountains.
