From 14 December 2025, rail traffic between Germany and Poland will become significantly denser: the number of long-distance trains will increase from 11 to 17 per day. This was reported by the publication Railmarket, specifying that the initiators of the expansion were German carrier Deutsche Bahn and Polish operator PKP Intercity. The increase will be 54%, which reflects the growing demand for cross-border travel and the companies' desire to improve accessibility to key cities in the two countries.
One of the main innovations will be the launch of a new direct route Leipzig - Wroclaw - Krakow - Przemysl. Trains will run twice a day in both directions, providing residents and tourists with fundamentally new travel opportunities. It is especially noted that this is the first time that Leipzig will have a direct rail connection not only with the southern part of Poland, but also with the city of Przemysl, located on the Polish-Ukrainian border.
In addition, the schedule will include a new route to the city of Chelm, which will strengthen the transport connection between eastern Poland and Germany. Experts emphasize that such changes are not only of touristic but also strategic importance, as they open up additional routes to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
