UK insurance company Direct Line conducted an interesting study to find out how generous tourists from different countries are when it comes to tipping. The study was conducted in hotels and restaurants in Las Vegas (USA), Barcelona (Spain), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Paris (France) and Ibiza (Spain).
The results of the study, published in the RuNet by the Kommersant publication, showed that the stingiest in terms of tips are tourists from France, who on average leave about 5% over the bill. However, the publication notes that 5% for the French is more generosity than greed, since in this country tipping is not obligatory, and in some places is strictly prohibited.
According to Direct Line, most travelers try to stick to the norm and leave a tip of about 10% of the bill. In addition to the French, who took first place in the stinginess rating, the Italians and the English, who leave an average of 7% to waiters.
As for the nation that tips the most, it turned out to be Americans, which often significantly exceed the usual 10% tip - on average, they leave 13% of the bill. Russians took an honorable third place in the ranking of generous tourists.
