Four Tomsk mountaineers died while climbing one of the highest peaks of the Altai Mountains – Kupol Peak. The Tomsk Mountaineering Federation confirmed the athletes’ deaths, adding that the cause of death was most likely hypothermia.
"On the night of August 14, in Aktru (Kosh-Agach district, Altai Republic - ed.), while climbing the Kupol peak, experienced climbers from the Tourist and Mountaineering Club of the Tomsk University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TAKT) died. Presumably, they froze to death", — said the message distributed by the Tomsk Mountaineering Federation on its official social media accounts.
