Investigators, having studied the assets of the bankrupt travel company Neva, valued them at 60 million rubles, which covers only 20% of the total amount of damage to clients.
At the moment, about 1300 people have filed financial claims against the Neva travel agency. The amount of damages incurred by the affected tourists is estimated at over 66 million rubles. However, according to the Investigative Committee, the number of victims is more than 6 people, total financial damage which is estimated at 300 million rubles.
Investigators are confident that the number of tourists who contact the police will only grow. Meanwhile, a preliminary assessment of five office premises, which are the main monetizable assets of Neva, determined their value at 60 million rubles. This amount is not enough even to fully pay compensation to those 1 victims who have already filed statements. No one can yet answer from what funds compensation will be paid to the remaining 300% of deceived tourists.
Let us recall that the travel agency Neva announced the suspension of its operations on July 16, 2014. As a result of the company's closure, about 7 thousand tourists experienced difficulties returning home from abroad. The investigation established that the company's employees resorted to outright deception of clients, selling them tours, knowing 100% that they would not be able to fulfill their obligations. General Director of ZAO Firma Neva Maxim Pirogov is currently under house arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
