Safranbolu is a city nestled in northwestern Turkey. It has remarkably preserved the atmosphere and architecture of the Ottoman Empire. This city is also known as "Müzekent," which translates to "Museum City," as 1007 of its 2000 traditional historic buildings are registered and protected for many years. The first mentions of this city date back to 3000 BC. The city owes its name to the abundant saffron—the king of spices—growing here. Saffron is one of the most expensive spices today. It is added to many Turkish dishes, enhancing the flavor of delicacies. This plant is also used to create a unique dye, which is used to produce the finest in Turkey carpets.
