In northwestern Turkey, prolonged heavy rains caused the Meriç River to overflow, causing flooding in Edirne Province. The water level rose sharply, overflowing its channel, affecting both transport infrastructure and agricultural land.

The most challenging situation developed on the section of road between Elçili and Uzunköprü, where the water approached the roadway and partially covered it. Traffic became difficult, and some sections became potentially dangerous for drivers.
Flooding was also reported in the Küplü and Subaşı districts. In these communities, water overflowed protective dams, spreading onto roads and adjacent properties. As a result, farmland was submerged, which could lead to losses in the agricultural sector.

Experts believe the incident was caused by intense rainfall, which quickly increased the river's volume. Similar situations have occurred in the country before and remain typical during periods of heavy rainfall. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation and warn residents and tourists to exercise caution in flooded areas.
