Turkey's capital is rich in beautiful places, but here lies a unique park, considered the oldest in Ankara. It enjoys a wonderful location, built in the very center of the city. Young people love to spend time here, strolling along the paths, admiring the artificial lake with fountains, and enjoying the amusement rides. At the beginning of the century, this site was simply a swamp. However, city authorities drained it in 1936 and decided to transform the 28-hectare amusement park into one. The park officially opened only in 1943, on Youth Day.
It features a huge Luna Park, luxurious fountains, love seats, and modern playgrounds. The park acquired its current appearance only a few years ago, following a major renovation. Many trees were recently planted, but there are also some ancient plants, some nearly 100 years old.
Flowers are planted along almost the entire perimeter, lending the park a spring-like atmosphere and appeal. In the center is a large pool with lighting that turns on at night. Several fountains are located within, allowing you to catch a few drops of water in hot weather.
Not far from the pool stands the enormous Monument to the Republic, consisting of two tall slabs over 12 meters high, with the globe hidden between them. The globe is approximately three meters in diameter, and the entire monument is made of steel. Thanks to the magnificent lake located within the park, many tourists come here for water activities. The paths are all illuminated, with lanterns that cast a dim light or change the color to different shades.
If you want some peace and quiet, it's best to come in the morning. Students and schoolchildren like to skip classes here, but in the evening, there simply aren't any free benches. This is how popular this park is in the city. Furthermore, the Ramadan festival is held here every year until mid-September. For lovers of printed literature, there's a regular book fair.
During the warmer months, concerts, competitions, and entertainment programs are regularly held here. The park even has small cafes where you can sit and grab a tasty snack. For tourists There are souvenir shops.
