Pulkovo Airport is one of the "windows to Europe" and the only international air gates of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. The complex is located 20 km from the historical center of St. Petersburg, on the territory of the Moskovsky District of the city and the Lomonosovsky District of the region.
Based on the results of the past year, the Pulkovo complex provided transportation services 14,3 million passengers, therefore it took the honorable third place in the list of the most powerful airports in the country. Pulkovo Airport is home to the transport facilities of two domestic airlines - Rossiya and Transaero.
Today, the airport has one terminal – the luxurious Pulkovo-1 terminal, which was modernized in 2013. In 2014, Pulkovo-2 terminal was closed, and its operation depends on the decision of the St. Petersburg administration.
In addition to the cool elegance and modern comfort of the Pulkovo-1 airport terminal, the complex is proud of its history. It began in 1932, when the airport began operating under the name "Shosseynaya". The name was borrowed from the nearest railway station. In 1934, the complex became the base for the 31st transport aviation squadron, engaged in the transportation of cargo and mail. During the war, the airport was in the line of fire, so it did not function, and after the lifting of the blockade, passenger and cargo transportation increased sharply. In 1951, the complex acquired a new terminal building, and in 1964 - a new runway.
The final chord in the establishment of the glory of the modern airport was the renaming of the complex to “Pulkovo”, accompanied by the replacement of the entire transport fleet.
