Istanbul is full of historical curiosities that attract with their charming architecture. Thus, among the places visited by tourists are the famous towers of the city.
Maiden's Tower
The building is located on a miniature island of rocks where the Bosphorus empties into the Sea of Marmara. The landmark is a kind of symbol of the town near the Asian coast. The Maiden's Tower is considered one of the oldest buildings in Turkey, as it was erected in the third century by order of Emperor Constantine the Great. Initially, the building was a watchtower and signal tower, and after the fall of Constantinople, it served as a defensive structure. As a result of an earthquake, the tower was partially destroyed, but after a certain time in 1725 it was rebuilt. During the Ottoman Empire, it served as a lighthouse. In 1999, a major overhaul was carried out in the Maiden's Tower, so today the building is always open to visitors.
Galata tower
In the European part of Istanbul, in the Beyoglu district, is the Galata Tower. It stands on top of a hill, so its historical value can be seen from any point in Istanbul. The observation deck of the tower is especially popular, as you can take in the entire majestic Istanbul from there. It is believed that the building was built in the fourteenth century by the Genoese, and before that there was another building here. It received its current name during the reign of the Ottoman Empire, and was once called the "Tower of Jesus". For some time, the building served as an observatory and observation point at the fire department.
Beyazit Tower
In the Istanbul quarter of Beyazit there is a tower of the same name. It is made of white marble. It was built in the twenties of the nineteenth century and has always served as a fire lookout tower.
