The owner of one of the hotels in the Turkish city of Van was recently sentenced to 15 years and 6 months in prison. The owner of the Bayram Hotel, Teyfik Bayram, received a term for violating safety regulations during the construction and operation of the building, which led to human casualties.
Let us remind you that the hotel "Bayram" in Van, Türkiye, was among 25 buildings destroyed a devastating earthquake, which occurred on November 1, 2011. On that fateful day, 24 guests died under the ruins of the hotel.
The investigation brought charges against Mr. Bayram for neglecting safety standards during the construction of the hotel building, which ultimately led to its destruction from tremors.
The hotelier himself did not appear at the court hearing, citing health reasons, notes the portal turkeyforfriends.com. However, this did not stop the Turkish court from issuing guilty verdict and sentence Bayram to imprisonment for a term of 15 years, 6 months and 20 days.
