According to the statement of the head of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism Omer Celik, in January 2015, the Turkish tourism sector demonstrated growth of 9% compared to the same month last year, the Anadolu news agency reports.
According to the ministry, 1 million 250 thousand 941 foreign tourists visited Turkey in January, which is approximately 9% more than the statistics for January of last year of 1 million 146 thousand 815 foreign tourists.
The top three countries that were the main suppliers of tourist traffic to Turkey in January 2015 are as follows:
1. Germany – 115 thousand 933 people.
2. Georgia – 108 thousand 047 people.
3. Bulgaria – 99 thousand 057 people.
It should be added that more than half of all foreign tourists who arrived in Turkey in January chose Istanbul as the main destination for their visit. Turkish metropolis received 692 thousand 401 tourists in January, while the second most popular city, Edirne, received only 151 thousand 395 people.
