From 28 July 2025 of the year in Turkey All restaurants, cafes and even small eateries are required to place QR codes with digital menus. This decision was made by the Ministry of Trade, which explains the innovation by the desire to increase transparency and protect the rights of visitors.
Now every catering establishment must provide guests with access to up-to-date information about their dishes in literally two clicks. By scanning the QR code, the visitor will see not only a list of dishes and drinks, but also learn their composition, the presence of allergens, calorie content and, most importantly, current prices.
In recent years, tourists and locals have increasingly complained about inflated bills and hidden markups, especially in popular tourist areas. A digital menu will help avoid misunderstandings and disputes: prices must completely match those indicated in the QR version. For regulatory authorities, such a system will become another tool for quickly checking the integrity of establishments.
In addition to the detailed composition and price, the owners of the establishments are required to indicate information about allergens - this requirement is especially important for foreign guests who are increasingly interested in food safety. The menu will also now contain information about the calorie content of portions.
Restaurant owners have already begun to adapt to the new rules. Many establishments have long used QR menus, but now this will become mandatory even for the smallest cafes and traditional eateries. Violators will face fines and unscheduled inspections.
