In August last year, science teacher Gulten Ari drowned in a swimming pool at a five-star hotel in Bursa's Balikesir Ayvalik district. Her police officer husband sued the hotel for 350 Turkish liras, claiming that his wife's death was due to the negligence of hotel staff.

After the lawsuit was filed, it became known that five of the hotel's cars had been seized. The plaintiff's lawyer said that he expected to win the case, since there were no lifeguards at the pool during the incident.
