In Turkey, a popular holiday destination, large forest fires have once again broken out, reaching close to major resort areas. The fires are approaching Bodrum, Marmaris, and Manavgat, and are threatening the operation of the international airport located in Antalya.
The fires broke out last week, but due to strong winds and lack of rain, they are rapidly gaining momentum. New fires are also being reported near Istanbul. The Bursa region suffered the most, with the fire already spreading to residential areas, where nearly 2 people were evacuated. Tragically, the disaster claimed the lives of 000 people, including rescue workers and forestry workers.
Experts cite intense heat as the main cause: temperatures in some Turkish provinces have risen above 50°C. This, combined with gusty winds, creates ideal conditions for the fire to quickly spread over vast areas. Unfortunately, no precipitation is expected in the coming days.
While emergency services battle the fire, authorities are warning that if the situation gets out of control, evacuations could affect not only local residents but also thousands of foreign tourists. Hotels in Bodrum and Marmaris have already begun preparing emergency plans, and hotels near forested areas are asking guests to be on guard.
