Unusual cold weather for this period has come to Turkey. The reason for the heavy snowfall and abnormally low air temperature is a cyclone over the Aegean Sea. The height of the snowdrifts in Turkey reached a height of 80 centimeters. Temperatures in the region were 6-12 degrees below the climatic norm for the season.
Due to snow collapse in some regions, classes have been suspended in some schools and universities. According to Turkish media, due to snow collapse, large traffic jams are occurring on the roads.
Thus, the movement is most difficult in Ankara, Konya, Manic, Karaman, Sparta. Snowfalls also fell in Sivas, Cankırı, Bilecik and other cities. Istanbul also got it, it was covered with snow, but not for long, soon the snow melted due to high temperatures. The Turkish meteorological service warns of possible flooding in the southern part of Turkey.
Also, bad weather came to the capital of Greece, Athens. There was snowfall, which is a rare occurrence for this region.
Weather conditions in Greece worsened at the end of December, snowfalls fell in the north and central parts of the country, and heavy rains occurred in some places. Three people have already died from the bad weather during this time. Meteorologists expect the bad weather conditions to continue until January 3-9.
