As reported in the media Turkey, in the last few months, archaeological research and excavations have been carried out in the ancient region of Yumurtalık, which is located in the Turkish province of Adana. As a result of the ongoing work in this area, a fairly ancient fresco was discovered, which depicts the God of the Sea himself - Poseidon.
According to scientists, this is an ancient Greek mosaic that has been perfectly preserved to this day. In addition, it became known that such a rare find is a decent part of the artifacts that were excavated in the location of the city of Aigea. At the site of the excavations, baths were once built that received a huge number of people. And the floor of these ancient baths was covered with this mosaic.
According to cultural representatives, the port town of Aigea was built in the second century BC, but the mosaic found dates back to the 3rd-4th century AD.
The fresco depicting Poseidon has a small inscription, which is located at the bottom of the mosaic under the picture. The words are written in Greek and literally translate as "I greet all bathers." It was discovered in the frigidarium, which resembles a huge pool with cool, clear water. The total area of the discovered fresco is about 11,4 square meters. It is worth noting that the upper part of the mosaic is perfectly preserved. But the lower part will have to be tinkered with a little to restore. At the moment, the country's authorities have not yet determined the fate of the find.
