The international transport company Uber announced that its mobile application for smartphones and other electronic gadgets for calling taxis now fully interacts with the system of water taxis plying the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul.
The new service has been given a name uberboat, according to the company, it works closely with the marine transport company Navette-Tezman Holding. The UberBOAT service will allow Istanbul residents or tourists to book a speedboat by choosing one of standard routes, or by independently assigning the start and end points of the trip.
Uber says the Istanbul water taxi will have all the benefits of the company's land-based passenger transportation. Namely, passengers will be able to split the fare between themselves. Given that the average capacity of taxi boats operating on the Bosphorus, 7-8 people, this opportunity makes water transport one of the most affordable in the Turkish metropolis for a group of friends or a small group of tourists.
According to preliminary information, the minimum fare starts at 50 Turkish lira. The cost varies depending on the length of the route and the time of day.
