The five-star Sheraton Adana hotel, located on the banks of the Seyhan River (south of Turkey, 50 km from the Mediterranean coast), launched the Working Cats environmental project. The project calls for fighting for a clean environment in a natural way.
Always in support of the environmentally friendly and economical use of natural resources, the Sheraton Adana Hotel also cares about the protection of the rights of our smaller brothers.
The 12 cats living in the hotel park are on duty every day as part of the Working Cats project, protecting the hotel territory from pests and rodents that come here from the Seyhan River. In return, the cats receive not only a “salary” in the form of a daily ration, but also a social package, which includes veterinary services, along with the unlimited care of the staff and the love of the hotel guests. Thus, the management of the Turkish hotel not only ensures the sanitary cleanliness of the territory without the use of toxic substances, but also protects homeless animals.
The idea of using stray animals as a “workforce” was borrowed by Sheraton Adana CEO Mark Wozniak from the Sheraton Gambia hotel. Moreover, Mark also took on all the expenses for keeping cats on the hotel premises.
Commenting on this unusual decision, Wozniak stated the following:
“Sheraton Adana always strives to implement projects that are mutually beneficial for both us and the environment. “Working cats” is one of them. In fact, the idea of using street animals for the benefit of society is not new, but this particular project was inspired by the experience of Sheraton Gambia. Now cats are part of our team. Thanks to their work, we do not need to harm the environment with toxic chemicals.”
