An earthquake measuring 5,1 in magnitude struck southwestern Turkey's Mugla province early Saturday. The tremor shook the Ula district of the Aegean province at 12:49 p.m. local time. There were no casualties or damage reported after the 5,1-magnitude quake. The quake's depth was 22,85 kilometers, the Prime Minister's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said. The elements again hit Turkey in the southwest: an earthquake measuring 5,1 on the Richter scale hits MuglaHowever, a magnitude 5 earthquake also struck Ule late Wednesday. Türkiye, located on major seismic fault lines, is regularly hit by tremors.

The Aegean coast has been hit by several earthquakes measuring over 5 since the start of the year. In July, two foreigners died and more than 100 people were injured on the Greek island of Kos when an earthquake shook popular Greek and Turkish holiday destinations on the Aegean. Many tourists were injured after jumping from their hotel balconies. Bodrum and parts of Kos experienced flooding after two-ton tidal waves slammed into towns, causing extensive damage to buildings. Tens of thousands of holidaymakers, including those miles from the epicentre, spent the next two nights camping in Kos because their hotels were damaged and the likelihood of further tremors was high. The area is particularly susceptible to seismic activity due to its proximity to the African tectonic plate, which converges northwards with the Eurasian plate along a complex boundary. The elements again hit Turkey in the southwest: an earthquake measuring 5,1 on the Richter scale hits MuglaThe earthquake that occurred yesterday did not cause any damage, but it scared people in Mugla considerably. Tourists who go on holiday to Turkey should be warned in advance about the most dangerous seismic zones in the country. Today it is possible to predict the places of natural disasters.
