A renovation that revealed a city: a giant underground settlement was discovered in Turkey.

In Nevşehir Province, Turkey, an ordinary resident, while renovating his basement, accidentally discovered a mysterious passage in the wall. It led him to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century—the underground city of Derinkuyu, which could have housed over XNUMX people, along with their livestock and food supplies.The discovered corridor turned out to be part of a complex system of tunnels, halls, and rooms extending up to 85 meters underground. Archaeologists soon discovered that the city contains 18 underground levels, although only a fraction of them are open to tourists.Amazingly, this underground city had everything necessary for autonomous living: living quarters, schools, kitchens, chapels, stables, wine and oil presses, ventilation shafts, and even massive doors to protect against external threats. Narrow passages ensured safety during potential attacks, and an elaborate ventilation system supplied fresh air even at the deepest levels.
