The Naberezhnye Chelny court has issued a verdict in the scandalous case of the former head of the juvenile police department of the Avtozavodsky police station No. 1 for extorting travel packages to Turkey and Thailand from a businessman involved in the underground gambling business.
46-year-old Aleksey Kacharin, who in 2010 held the position of chief of the district police officers of the Naberezhnye Chelny Department of Internal Affairs for the Avtozavodsky District, took advantage of his official position to impose his patronage on a businessman who organized an underground gambling club.
In exchange for the "roof," Kacharin demanded that the casino owner buy him travel packages to Turkey and Thailand and pay his bills at the cafe where he regularly dined. In total, through his illegal actions, Kacharin extorted 179,5 thousand rubles from the businessman (2 packages and payment for dinners).
The Naberezhnye Chelny court found the former policeman guilty of a crime under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and sentenced Alexey Kacharin to a suspended sentence of 3 years. It should be noted that the defendant admitted his guilt only partially.
