A magnitude 5,1 earthquake was recorded in western Turkey this morning. The tremors occurred in the Denizli province, just a few kilometers from the famous resort of Pamukkale.
According to AFAD, the seismic event occurred at approximately 09:21 a.m. local time. The epicenter was located near the village of Buldan, and the source was located at a depth of approximately seven kilometers. The distance to the famous Pamukkale thermal springs was approximately five kilometers.
The tremors were felt not only in Denizli Province but also in several neighboring regions. Despite the significant magnitude, initial surveys revealed no damage or casualties. Experts note that for half an hour after the earthquake, no negative effects were recorded either at the epicenter or in four surrounding provinces.
Pamukkale is considered one of Turkey's most famous natural attractions and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its snow-white travertine terraces and thermal springs attract hundreds of thousands of tourists annually. However, the resort is currently in its low season, so the number of visitors is significantly lower than in summer.
