Tourism associations in the popular resort town of Bodrum (Mugla, Turkey) are sounding the alarm. Already extremely high prices in the city's restaurants and cafes have skyrocketed this season, which could significantly dampen interest in Bodrum vacations among foreign tourists, according to turizm.ru.

In a conversation with journalists, Mr. Mahmut Kocadan, head of the Bodrum Chamber of Commerce, expressed serious concerns about the exorbitant price increases for food, beverages, and prepared meals sold in the city's retail outlets, cafes, and restaurants. According to Kocadan, if the authorities don't begin artificially regulating prices soon, one of Turkey's most popular resorts risks losing a significant share of its tourist traffic.

The head of the Chamber of Commerce gave journalists the example of a British tourist who had to shell out over $850 for a relatively modest dinner for five people, three of whom were children. The Briton admitted that a similar dinner in London's most prestigious district (and according to recent data, London is the most expensive city on the planet) would have cost him almost half as much.
