Heavy rain in Antalya causes flooding

Heavy rain and thunderstorms have been battering Antalya since the evening of Monday, December 8. The downpour has caused street flooding, power outages, and the disruption of the city's transportation infrastructure.

According to the Regional Meteorological Administration, by Tuesday evening, rainfall exceeded 140 liters per square meter. The torrential rain overwhelmed storm drains, leading to flooding in Antalya's streets. In some places, the water level exceeded 1 meter.

The ground floors and basements of numerous institutions, industrial and office buildings, and residential buildings were flooded. The flooding forced the closure of several highways. Traffic congestion amid the ongoing storm forced authorities to cancel school classes in five districts of Antalya province.

It should be noted that at times the rain was replaced by fairly large hail. According to weather forecasters Heavy rain and gusts of wind will continue in the Mediterranean coast of Turkey until Thursday and Friday.
