TURSAB CEO Sees Benefits for Turkish Tourism in National Currency Devaluation

The head of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB) Başaran Ulusoy said in a recent interview with Anadolu News Agency that the fall in the exchange rate of the Turkish lira against the US dollar and the euro gives the tourism sector some competitive advantages that need to be exploited.

Ulusoy noted, devaluation of the lira makes holidays in Turkey more financially attractive for European citizens. However, he warns: "We must be careful that Turkey does not get a reputation for cheap and low-quality holidays. We must offer quality and inexpensive holidays in excellent resorts.", — the head of TURSAB emphasized.

Meanwhile, updated data on the number of foreign tourists visiting Turkish resorts for the period January-August of this year has become known. According to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the leaders in terms of visits in the first 8 months of this year were German citizens (3 million 750 thousand). In second place are Russians (2 million 780 thousand), in third place are British tourists (1 million 800 thousand).
