Phrygian Valley, located within the boundaries of Eskişehir, Kütahya and Afyonkaraşışar provinces, will be improved to promote the natural values of the region. Planned by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the first stage of the Phrygian Valley project has begun with an area of 1112 hectares included in the natural area.
Turkey's Directorate General of Natural Heritage Preservation announced that the project aims to revive the Phrygian Valley, which has ancient heritage dating back to 9-000 BC.
The first phase of the project involved the initiation of feasibility studies, photographing every square metre of the valley to identify non-compliant structures. The action plan requires that any unsatisfactory structures found in the valley be restored to reflect the local architecture of the area. Environmental and infrastructure planning, lighting and signage will also be undertaken.
After the completion of the project, the Phrygian Valley, where the thousand-year history of Anatolia, its cultural and natural beauties are located, will be transformed into an open-air museum to attract many visitors. The first stage of the project is expected to be completed this year, and a new action plan for the second stage of the project will be prepared in 2018.
