An ancient theatre estimated to be around 2500 years old, located in the city of Magarsus (Adana Province, Türkiye), will soon open to tourists after almost 2 years of archaeological excavations.
According to scientists, the city of Magarsus was founded in the 333th century BC. Previously, it was of great importance, as evidenced by numerous government buildings, baths, theaters, etc. According to some sources, in XNUMX BC, Magarsus was visited by the great commander Alexander Makedonski to perform the ritual of sacrifice in the Temple of Athena.
Just 2 years ago, about 60% of the ancient city's area was buried underground. excavations allowed the cleaning of most of the magnificent buildings, including the aforementioned theatre.
The theatre in Magarsus is 150 metres long, about 30 metres wide and has a capacity of 3 people. The final preparations for the theatre’s “second birth” are currently underway. It is planned that in addition to the possibility of tourist visits for inspection, the theatre will also host various shows, cultural events and real theatre productions.
