Nine Turkish hotels punished for 'fake' stars

Turkish authorities are beginning to impose real administrative and monetary sanctions on violators of the truthful advertising law.

Not long ago, the Turkish Ministry of Customs and Trade imposed a large fine on a number of hotels that deliberately distorted the number of their stars and awards in their advertising.

Following a ministerial investigation conducted on the basis of a number of complaints from deceived tourists, 9 unscrupulous hotels were subject to administrative penalties. As it turned out, the number of stars in their advertising materials was inflated compared to official documents. In order to avoid further deception of tourists, the owners of these hotels were ordered to abandon false advertising and pay a large fine.
