In the space of one week, three major travel companies in the world declared bankruptcy: Russia, Kazakhstan and Germany. They were left with outstanding debts to airlines and hotels.
The largest of these three was the Russian travel company Neva. Shortly before its closure, the Kazakh travel agency Gulnar Tour declared itself bankrupt. And in Germany, one of the strongest players in the domestic tourism market, Turopa, went under.
The bankrupt companies played a very important role in the tourism sector of the Turkish economy.
Two of the three travel companies, despite the cessation of their activities, took care of their clients, and all tourists who were in Turkey at that time safely returned to their homeland. The German tour operator, which specialized in the European direction, had no tourists in Turkey at the time of bankruptcy.
All three bankrupts have large debts to carriers and hotels around the world. According to hotel owners, any troubles in the tourism sector affect them first, causing large financial losses.
