In Antalya, Turkey, preparations are in full swing for the opening of the IX International Sand Sculpture Festival, which will start on May 15, 2015. The theme of this year's festival is "7 Wonders of the World and Mythology."
According to Turkish media, sand sculptures will be located on the territory of Lara Birlik Beach. This year, 22 sculptors from 9 countries will take part in the festival, who will create a total of about 200 individual and group compositions, using almost 15 thousand tons of sand for them.
Local residents and numerous Turkish and foreign tourists will be able to see unique sand sculptures on Lara Birlik Beach depicting Poseidon, the Hindu god Ganesha, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Colossus of Rados, the tomb of King Mausolus and much more.
It should be noted that earlier in the press there was information that this year at the IX International Festival in Antalya a the tallest sand sculpture ever created by man. Its planned height is 23.5 meters.
Festival director Cem Karaca told reporters that the event attracts more and more people every year. more and more tourists, and he hopes the trend will continue. “Thousands of people come to the festival every year, but we want it to be millions,” Karaca said.
