Belek, famous for its ancient Roman ruins, is located on the southern tip of the Mediterranean coast. There are plenty of things to do when visiting Belek, including exploring ancient ruins, enjoying a water park, and swimming with dolphins.
Roman and Greek ruins:
- Amphitheater. The Greco-Roman amphitheater of Aspendos can accommodate over 15 people. It was in good condition, and you can travel up and down the huge steps, just like the Romans did during the time of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Today, the structure still entertains thousands of visitors with operas and festivals. Be careful when you come here. There are many snakes in the high grassy areas.
- Perge. The remains of Greek and Roman cities lie in Perge. The city suffered from huge earthquakes, but most of the ruins are still standing. When walking around the area, be aware of the lizards, chameleons and other reptiles that live here. The area can also get very hot, so sunscreen or a large hat is recommended.
Water activities in Belek:
- Troy Aqua. Troy Aqua's many slides are great for water lovers. When you go, expect the place to be very busy. Trips can get hectic as there are many people trying to get into this water park. Consider planning your vacation when the park won't be as crowded, such as at the end of the tourist season or early in the season, and excluding bank holidays and school holidays.
- Dolphinarium. The Dolphinarium is part of Troy Aqua. Entrance fee is 25 euros. Here you can see a show of dolphins and walruses. For an additional fee, you can also swim with these mammals.
