Italy's parliament approved a law on Thursday that will make it harder for judges to hand down harsh sentences to people who shoot robbers, calling the actions "legitimate self-defense."
Violent crime in Italy has fallen in recent years, with homicides down 16,3 percent year-on-year in the 12 months to August 2018 and armed robberies down 12,3 percent, the interior ministry said. However, the interior minister and Deputy Prime Minister Salvini are offering their public support to the men prosecuted for shooting robbers.
