The images were obtained using the optics of the Hubble Space Telescope, which, despite being a quarter-century old by space standards, continues to consistently provide scientists with high-quality images of distant objects in the Universe. The galaxy, known as LEDA 89996 (J04542829-6625280), is located tens of millions of light-years from our planet in the constellation Dorado.
The "Ghost" galaxy is located in the constellation "Centaurus." According to the Hubble classification, it is considered a "lenticular" galaxy. It is believed that PGC 42871, may have recently interacted with another galaxy, sending shock waves through its structure, similar to ripples in a pond. This image was taken with the Advanced Camera for Surveys.
Astronomers have exhaustively studied the galaxy ESO 381-12 because of its very unusual structure.
