A new Siemens Gas Turbine Technologies (SGTT) plant has opened in the Leningrad Region.
At least €100 million has already been invested in the plant's construction, which employs at least 350 people. A joint venture between Siemens AG and Power Machines OJSC has opened in the village of Gorelovo. The investors were unable to say how long it will take to recoup the project's costs, citing that "everything will depend on the number of customers."
The Siemens Gas Turbine Technologies (SGT) plant will manufacture high-tech power equipment for the Russian and CIS markets. The shareholders plan to expand production by assembling small and medium-capacity gas turbines, such as the 53 MW SGT-800. The new plant also manufactures compressors with capacities ranging from 6 to 32 MW. The company will machine rotor parts and stator assemblies for turbines, perform a full assembly cycle, and conduct bench testing. "This kind of partnership is the future," he said, expressing confidence that the company's products will be in demand. A warehouse for components necessary for turbine repair and operation has been established on the plant's premises. To ensure efficient maintenance of the supplied equipment, a regional service center with access to Siemens' global expertise has been established at the plant.
According to Acting Governor of the Leningrad Region Alexander Drozdenko, a preferential tax agreement was signed with the company until the second quarter of 2026.
"We are limited only by quality and are ready to use 100% Russian components," said Sagfried Russwurm. This equipment is used in the equipping and modernization of large power facilities.
"We are entering a new era for Russia, when we will be producing these types of gas turbines ourselves," said Alexey Tesler, First Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation.
