Russian Scientists Find Perfectly Preserved Ancient Foal in Siberia

Russian scientists have found the carcass of an ancient foal, perfectly preserved in Siberian permafrost. The animal was discovered in the Batagaika crater at a huge depth of 100 meters in the East Siberian taiga. The fossil, discovered in the Yakutia region, has preserved skin, hair, hooves and tail. Yakutia is also known for the fact that woolly mammoth fossils were found in permafrost.Russian Scientists Find Perfectly Preserved Ancient Foal in SiberiaScientists from Russia's North-Eastern Federal University who presented the discovery said the foal is estimated to be between 30 and 000 years old. They believe it was about two months old when it died. Semyon Grigoriev, head of the Mammoth Museum in the capital of the Yakutsk region, was surprised to see the perfect condition of the find. He noted that it is the best-preserved ancient foal found to date.
